About
David is a creative leader and innovator who designs objects, interfaces, spaces and experiences, focusing on making strategic things more tangible and executional things more thoughtful. At Colgate-Palmolive, David directs a cross-discipline team of industrial designers, digital designers and design+user research focused on product and brand innovation.
David has over 20 years of design, innovation, brand, strategy and business experience. He has worked on everything- from facilitating innovation with Buzzfeed Product Labs, 'gaining new shares of mouth' with Diageo, through 'attracting millennials to gardening" with Scotts Miracle Grow. He has led inter-disciplinary teams for clients that include both early-stage owners and Fortune 100 companies.
Before joining Colgate-Palmolive David helped to found CAMP, the first ever Family Experience Company. CAMP is known for its totally unique shop/play hybrid experience in their physical locations across the country and on CAMP.com.
David has always been interested in how design affects peoples lives and his passion is creating joy and telling stories through physical space, digital experiences and objects.

Be Your Own "Deus Ex Machina"

GenAI is transforming the ways we design products. It's become all too easy to become dependent on a 'machine' for an infinite amount of creative generation, whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem is suddenly or abruptly resolved by an unexpected and unlikely occurrence. Similar to the device "Deus Ex Machina", relying solely on the basic prompting of GenAI often results in unexpected and undesirable outputs and implies a lack of creativity on the part of the author. Often, results damage the logic of what we are trying to achieve and are often so unlikely that it challenges our suspension of disbelief. There are infinite ways to harness the creative generation of GenAI and I'd like to demonstrate how we are using it to transform the way we design products to enhance brand logic and creativity.
